All-star cast for 'Magnum New Rules' - Alkaline's expected performance a factor

J Wray and Nephew's marketing manager, Tamika West, has described the 'Magnum New Rules' concert slated for today at 8pm as "an unrivalled night to remember".

It is the first live concert in Jamaica in over three years to be headlined by controversial artiste, Alkaline.

The highly anticipated event will be held at the National Stadium Car Park, and will see the headlining act Alkaline also backed by a live band.

“As the official drink of dancehall, Magnum Tonic Wine found it important to play a role in delivering a powerhouse concert experience to lovers of authentic Jamaican music," she said. "The promoters have put together leading acts in both reggae and dancehall to perform on a single unrivalled night to remember."

In addition to Alkaline, Magnum New Rules will see performances from Mavado, Shaggy, Tarrus Riley, I-Octane and Jahmiel.

"We have a diverse reggae and dancehall cast, all of whom are in-demand by their fans and industry stakeholders to see perform live. We are confident in delivering a show to remember come March 25,” said Sandre Malcolm, of Brownstone Marketing and Entertainment, joint promoters of the event with New Era Productions.

Alkaline, who was recently locked up and questioned in relation to a murder in St Andrew, has not performed on local soil since his popularity exploded three years ago.

Cultural analyst Dr Donna Hope believes that Magnum has been providing a space for hardcore fans to participate in dancehall culture and expressed excitement at the brand's second major event for 2017 after the successful 'Magnum Live' held in January.

"The team has come up with a good formula and it's very well-advertised. It’s giving real dancehall people a package, a really good mix. There will be Shaggy and Jahmiel. It's reasonably priced. It's a good time of month, people get paid. I know it will be a success. I'll be there to see it," Hope said.
