  • Black Spyda Records Bio

Black Spyda born Fredrick Wright is currently a DANCEHALL/REGGAE producer who is making his name known to dancehall by his works. He hails from humble beginnings in the Old Capital, Spanish Town. During his early years while attending St. Jago High he dreamt of becoming one of Jamaica’s greatest cricketer and was the Captain of his high school team. He was also on Jamaica’s Under 19 Cricket team but several years after leaving school he found his true calling to be music! He started out as a disc jockey on News Talk 93 FM playing daily for thousands of listeners. In his drive to excel along with natural talent he also began to compose remixes.  From the recognition gained he got the opportunity to spread his wings in Guyana, Brazil, Suriname and St. Martin. While in Guyana, he played on the country’s top sound system Slingaz International, as well as on one of Guyana’s top radio stations, NCN but he wanted more out of music and came back to Jamaica. On his return he and his uncle started Close Range Sound but unfortunately this did not satisfy his heart. He started to dabble in the business of producing and in so doing, found it to be his true calling. He is known for his natural ability to create high quality music productions. Vocals, sound effects and instrumental arrangements are maintained and kept to the highest standards. Some of Black Spyda’s hot singles La La Land by Aidonia and Walk with Jah Jah by I Octane is presently scorching the airwaves and have crossed over in the mainstream. Other productions that gained recognition include Steppa Life Riddim, Club Life Riddim, Old Bring New Riddim, Lifeline Riddim and singles such as In Your Eyes by Aidonia featuring Aisha Davis. He has so far worked with artistes such as Aidonia, Black Ryno, Tony Matterhorn, Bounty Killa, Mavado, Aisha, I-Octane, Zamunda just to name a few. As for Close Range Sound, it is still very much around and went on to be placed second in the “Boom 45 Shoot Out Competition” at Fully Loaded 2011. He reminisces that music was always in his blood. As a child his dad was the owner of a sound system and remembers his dad sometimes taking him along when he played at children’s birthday parties. Other musical influences he has are Sly & Robbie, King Jammy, Steven McGregor, Chimney Records, Don Corleone and Ryan Leslie among others. Known to his peers as a humble individual who stays away from the hype of the industry, his aim is to keep the focus while never leaving out the Father and to continue putting in the hard work, with hopes that soon the return will be greater. Look out for many more productions from BlackSpyda – in his own words, the sky is the limit!
