It seemed Devin Di Dakta was destined for greatness from the moment he auditioned for the eighth Magnum Kings and Queens of Dancehall this year. After giving his all week after week, live on stage, he earned the top spot, entered that winner’s circle, and took to the throne as King. At the young age of 19, he proved to himself and others that he is not only a dynamic lyricist, he is an entertaining performer as well, most deserving of the ultimate victory. But this was nothing new for the trailblazing deejay in the making.

Born Anthony Clarke December 5, 1999, to mother Gwendolyn Clarke and father, Anthony Clarke senior, This tower of strength who stands at 6″4 hails from Highgate in the parish of St Mary in Jamaica. His exciting journey into music all began in high school, when he discovered he wanted to be a recording artist – a switch he confessed to making after expressing desires to become a Doctor. He decided then and there that he would merge the two to become the Doctor of Dancehall.

Winning the Tastee Talent Trail competition as Anthony Clarke the deejay at just 16 in 2012 was just a stepping stone for the vibrant artiste, who went on to dominate as Clash King at Unruly Clash Wednesdays, held weekly at Shocking Vibes Studio in the summer of 2014. Looking up the world boss and leading lyricist Vybz Kartel, and Kartel protégé, Popcaan, as well as King of the Dancehall, Bennie Man, he defies the notion of pen to paper, explaining that his writing style is simple: he sits down, meditates and creates current lyrically melodious content, riding rhythm waves and air waves.
And hit singles Rrrribambibengbeng, Every Girl, Trailer Load remix, Gyal A Run Me Down, Most Girls and Owna Boss have certainly secured his title as the lyrical surgeon.

The only way to go is up for the artiste who is currently looking forward to the release of his new video to popular song Rrrribambibengbeng out on the 19th of this month, the EP will be out soon, “By next year, everyone will know who Devin the Dakta is. And I will be one of the biggest deejays in Jamaica.”When he is not recording or performing, Devin Di Dakta can be found resting up for the stage, reading astronomical or geographical material, socializing with fans or friends, or cooking, as he is a budding chef – a man of many talents. A firm believer that proper preparation prevents poor performance, Devin Di Dakta is definitely a driving dancehall force to be reckoned with.
